Angelina Jolie Pitt is a method actor.

She won an Oscar for her performance in the film Girl, Interrupted.

The film is about a group of girls who have mental issues and Angie plays Lisa; a sociopath who is in and out of the mental hospital.

In one scene in hospital, she plays with a cat puppet and pretends to make it talk.

It’s a very clever scene where she uses a method secret weapon – a personal object.

A personal object is something you have a strong emotional attachment to from your own life. The cat puppet would have meant something to her personally, so she could infuse the scene with the correct emotion.

So, I guess her cat puppet played a role in her winning the Oscar.

Here is the thing:

There is a reason why all these Oscar winners use the method – it works!

Angelina gets paid tens of millions to appear in a film. When you are getting paid that sort of money you need a very dependable and consistent technique.

Could you imagine Angelina turning up for the filming of Girl, Interrupted and saying “I don’t know if I can get emotional today”?

I don’t think so. That’s why she has all these method approaches under her belt, so when it comes time to turn it on she can nail it each and every time.

The personal object may sound like an easy thing to do, but the reality is that you need to learn this technique in detail with a master.
