Angelina Jolie Pitt is a method actor.

She won an Oscar for her performance in the film Girl, Interrupted.

The film is about a group of girls who have mental issues and Angie plays Lisa; a sociopath who is in and out of the mental hospital.

In one scene in hospital, she plays with a cat puppet and pretends to make it talk.

It’s a very clever scene where she uses a method secret weapon – a personal object.

A personal object is something you have a strong emotional attachment to from your own life. The cat puppet would have meant something to her personally, so she could infuse the scene with the correct emotion.

So, I guess her cat puppet played a role in her winning the Oscar.

Here is the thing:

Angelina gets paid tens of millions to appear in a film. When you are getting paid that sort of money you need a very dependable and consistent technique.

Could you imagine Angelina turning up for the filming of Girl, Interrupted and saying “I don’t know if I can get emotional today”?

I don’t think so. That’s why she has all these method approaches under her belt, so when it comes time to turn it on she can nail it each and every time.
